Sinossi: In un paesino del Galles rurale, il solitario e bizzarro Brian lavora come tuttofare per le signore della zona e si diverte a costruire ingegnosi congegni meccanici che funzionano di rado. Dopo aver trovato la testa di un manichino nei rottami che si diverte ad assemblare, Brian costruisce un robot dalle dimensioni umane. In una notte di tempesta, incredibilmente il robot si anima e comincia a interagire con Charles, parlando un perfetto inglese imparato dal dizionario e dicendo di chiamarsi Charles Petrescu. Brian finalmente trova un amico in Charles, ma i problemi cominciano quando il robot comincia a chiedere di uscire dalla loro proprietà e una volta convinto Brian a portarlo con sé durante i suoi lavori viene notato da Hazel, una giovane donna di cui Brian è innamorato…

 Recensione di Catello Masullo: Una piccola produzione, ma di scuola inglese, la migliore del mondo. E si vede. Un film curioso. Che affronta temi seri, come la paura del diverso, che porta le comunità chiuse in sé stesse a demonizzarlo ed a combatterlo, fino ad arrivare all’impulso irrefrenabile di volerlo annientare, distruggerlo (la metafora sulla “Brexit” è evidente quanto potente). E lo fa con i toni della commedia scanzonata, il modo migliore pe rendere la storia memorabile. Un film deliziosamente e romanticamente immaginifico, surreale e favolistico. Denso di ironia e sentimento.  Da non perdere.
